Sarah Goes To Rome!

Starting at the end of August, I'll be spending my Fall 2013 semester studying abroad at the American University of Rome. I've never been overseas and hope to go many new places, have incredible adventures, learn fascinating new things, and of course, write all about it here. Make sure to check in and share these incredible new experiences with me.

Has it really been two weeks since I've arrived? I feel like time is playing a trick on me and soon I'll realize it's only been a few days, because that's all it feels like. It's strange now normal everything here is to me now. I handle public transportation like a pro and know which buses to take to places and which stops to get off at. I can use basic Italian (however awful it may sound) to place orders at restaurants and I have favorite drinks and gelato flavors. I've even given directions to lost tourists who seem to assume I have lived here forever and have a great sense of direction (which people at home know.. I definitely don't).

Unlike a lot of study abroad students here, I haven't made any big trips yet. Instead, my roommates and I have had relaxing days and weekends where we try to just capture one tourist attraction at a time. I've sat on the Spanish steps, walked around the Colosseum, and tossed a coin in the Trevi Fountain. Other than those basics, I've taken a train to the beach and gotten to know my neighborhood by walking around and simply people watching. Everything has felt like such a surreal experience. I can't wait to see what else the semester brings!
