What is your most embarrassing travel experience?

I was tricked into playing a game where you close your eyes and move one hand up and down between the two hands of another person who has their eyes open and hands still in front of them spaced apart. You count to see how many times you can do it without touching either of the hands of the person standing in front of you. I thought I was doing really well, and was at 50 or so when I started to hear voices cheering and congratulating me becoming more distant. Eventually I opened my eyes and sure enough no one was around. Everyone had left and hid. I was not even the original target, but the game looked so exciting to me that I had volunteered. Needless to say, I was quite embarrassed, but it was a memorable and funny experience.

Costa Rica Adventures

I am studying abroad in Costa Rica doing an Intensive Spanish Language Program and living with a host family. This journal serves to keep others informed about my experience as well as to remain a record of my adventure for future reference or reflection.

Countdown begins!

...I depart from Newark to San Jose on Saturday!

I leave for Costa Rica in just 8 days. Wow! I’ve hit the single digits now. This brings upon nerves and excitement. Most of all, it reinforces the reality of what I’m about to do. I know there is a lot I could worry about, but I am trying to focus on all the fun and exciting aspects instead. I have no doubt that God is going to teach me many wonderful things throughout this experience.

I still feel like there is an abundance of things I need to do before I go, but nonetheless things are getting accomplished one by one, which is encouraging. I have been extremely busy working this past month, but I’m going camping this weekend and looking forward to some time to relax and simply think. This week is very meaningful. It officially ends my summer; It is preparation galore week; And it is my last chance to spend time with family until I see them again for Christmas. I have 3 more days of work, followed by 2 days off, and then I depart from Newark to San Jose on Saturday!

I miss my friends at school a great deal right now, and long to see their faces and hear their voices. It is hard thinking about how much I miss them already when I have not even left home yet. I am excited though for all of the new people I will meet. It is surely going to be the adventure of a lifetime for me, and I look forward to continually sharing stories and pictures about my experience with everyone.

For those of you praying for me, I ask that you specifically pray for my safety and well-being while traveling. I have never flown by myself before and am a little concerned about what will happen when I land and have to figure out what to do and where to go and deal with the language barrier all at the same time. Thankfully, I coincidentally met a lady from Costa Rica who will be flying back on the same flight as me. Also, please pray that I am able to get all the things I need to get done before I go accomplished so that I can leave with my mind at peace. Above all, pray that I allow myself to be used by God as much as possible and in any way He wishes throughout my entire trip. May he teach me, stretch me, mold me, and use me. Thank you for all of your support!
